NEW YORK, New York (March 24, 2009) - Technology is rapidly transforming the media and entertainment landscape, prompting businesses to implement or improve on their digital strategy or risk failure. To help companies stay in the game, world-class faculty and industry experts will be teaching an intensive
digital media strategy program for executives from June 8 to 10, at the Institute for Media and Entertainment (IME) in Manhattan.
"A lot of media companies are closing or threatened to do so because they're not well-equipped to compete in the digital age," says IME Managing Director Rich Sabreen. Sabreen's statement comes at a time when traditional news outlets like the Journal Register have been shutting down their print publications or, as in the case of Hearst's Seattle Post-Intelligencer, transitioning them completely online - a groundbreaking move that, Sabreen points out, may not necessarily save the 146-year-old journal.
"While innovation is good, it's not always enough," says Sabreen. In addition to keeping abreast of technology trends, Sabreen points out, "You have to have an effective, long-term digital strategy, and to take advantage of other factors in the ‘value chain' to make sure you're generating enough revenue for your business and getting the most out of your product."
So, does your company have the basic know-how to survive and thrive in the digital age? A quick and fun way to find out is by taking IME's free online Digital Strategy Quiz. You can request to receive a link to the quiz by clicking here. Topics include: Does Google compete in a winner-take-all segment? How did the Wii outsell the Xbox and the PlayStation? Who gets the most revenue when a new digital innovation is launched? These questions, along with other topics ranging from content creation to digital marketing and digital distribution, will also be covered in IME's "Business Strategy in the Digital Age" program.
To apply for the program, participants can go to: http://www.ime.edu/admissions/digital-strategies. They can also send an email to info@ime.edu or call (212) 421-9600 for more information. The total program cost is $4,300 which includes class materials, breakfast and lunch for all three days, as well as a group dinner.
